Get well wishes go out to Singer Shawn “Slim” Stockman. He is the latest
celebrity to come down with the H1N1 Virus (Swine Flu). Stockman is on the
mend, but he was noticeably absent from the taping of the Soul Train Awards.
Wanya and Nate Morris were left to perform as a duo, and later explained
what happened to Stockman. Boyz II Men has a new album coming out this month
called Love. The CD features production from American Idol Judge Randy
Jackson. The first single off their new album is a remake of the Journey
classic Open Arms.
Michael Jackson’s This Is It is a hit! The movie documentary featuring
rehearsal footage from the London shows that never happened was phenomenal.
The movie made over $101 million worldwide. Because the response for the
movie has been so great, it has been extended through Thanksgiving. Go see
it! It’s like watching a genius at work. You could only imagine how great
those London shows would have been.
Get ready for Thanksgiving and Beyonce. The Beyonce Thanksgiving special
will air Thursday, November 26th on ABC. Her latest DVD I Am Sasha Fierce
arrives in stores that same week.
Glamour magazine is featuring First Lady Michelle Obama on its latest issue.
Mrs. Obama is giving advice on the secrets to landing a great guy. The First
Lady says you don’t look at the bank book or title....you look at the heart
and the soul. You should be in a relationship with a person who makes you
feel completely happy and whole. Glamour magazine is rounding out the year
with Pop Singer Rihanna, who talks about the trauma she went through
following her breakup and beat down by Chris Brown. Brown pleaded guilty to
assaulting Rihanna, and he was sentenced to five years probation, six months
of community service and he must get a year of domestic violence counseling.
Rihanna says Brown was her first big love. She says she is stronger and
wiser after the incident.
Essence magazine has published a new book. The Obamas In The White House:
Reflections On Family, Faith And Leadership. The book features speeches and
over 80 photos.
Debra Winans is speaking out against her ex-husband, Gospel Singer BeBe
Winans. Debra Winans is questioning Oprah Winfrey’s decision to have BeBe on
the show. BeBe Winans hosts Oprah’s Karaoke Challenge on Thursdays, which
features the best karaoke singers around the country. Earlier this year,
BeBe Winans was arrested for shoving Debra Winans to the ground following a
custody dispute over their two children. Debra says Winfrey makes a stand
against domestic violence by criticizing Chris Brown, yet she welcomes BeBe
Winans with open arms. BeBe has recently reunited with his sister CeCe
Winans for their latest project Still.
Eddie Murphy is coming to America’s Next Top Model. Murphy will be in the
audience during the November 18th finale to cheer on his daughter Bria. Bria
is a beauty just like her mother Nicole, and Bria will be working it with
the models on the show.
Reverend Bernice King has been named the President of The Southern Christian
Leadership Conference. This is the civil rights organization that was
co-founded by her father. Bernice is the youngest child of Dr. Martin Luther
King, Jr. and his wife Coretta.
Whitney Houston is about to sell her New Jersey home. This is the home where
she married Bobby Brown in 1992. The five-bedroom home is selling for half
of its original value at $5.6 million.
Morris Chestnut is getting rave reviews for his ABC drama V. The show airs
Monday nights on ABC.
Queen Latifah will be starring in the holiday campaign for Macy’s Department
Stores.
The Jackson brothers are trying to plan a reunion for their classic song I
Want You Back. The song is 40-years old, and the reunion could coincide with
the debut of their A&E reality show.
George Lopez is about to make history as the first Latino host of a late
night talk show. Lopez’s new show debuts November 9th on the TBS network.
The show will air Monday through Thursday at 11pm. Some of the scheduled
guests include Kobe Bryant, Ellen DeGeneres, Eva Longoria-Parker, Jamie
Foxx, Queen Latifah and Arsenio Hall.
Regina King’s cancelled NBC show, Southland, has been picked up by the TNT
network.
Mary J. Blige’s new album, Stronger, is coming out December 15th.
Wanda Sykes new Saturday night talk show debuts this Saturday, November 7th
on FOX.
Singer Robin Thicke and his wife Actress Paula Patton are expecting their
first child. Thicke has a new album called Sex Therapy coming out December
8th. Patton co-stars in the soon to be released Lee Daniels’ film Precious.
I had a chance to see this movie, and it was awesome. This has to be one of
the best movies I have ever seen, and I think it is Daniels’ best work. The
movie stars newcomer Gabourey “Gabby” Sidibe (Ga-bo-ray Sa-dee-Bay) as the
16-year old girl who suffers unspeakable abuse. She is amazing. In real
life, she is a 26-year old student, and Precious is her first acting gig.
Daniels admits he found a gem in Sidibe. Mo’Nique is off the hook. She makes
the character “Mary Jones” come alive. She’s brutal, honest and raw. There
are so many great performances. Along with Mo’Nique, Paula Patton and
“Gabby” Sidibe, there’s Sherri Shepherd, Mariah Carey (You won’t recognize
her) and Lenny Kravitz. The movie opens nationwide November 13th.
Holly Robinson Peete, Sinbad and Cyndi Lauper have been added to the new
cast of Celebrity Apprentice.
The long awaited sit down interview between Oprah Winfrey and former Alaska
Governor Sarah Palin is happening on Monday, November 16th. The former vice
presidential candidate is promoting her new book, Going Rogue: An American
Life. Winfrey came under a lot of heat when she refused to interview Palin
during the 2008 presidential campaign.
Janet Jackson is coming out with a greatest hits CD. The Number Ones arrives
in stores November 17th. All the favorites will be featured: What Have You
Done For Me Lately, The Pleasure Principle, Control, Diamonds, Love Will
Never Do Without You, Black Cat and Let’s Wait Awhile, to name a few. One
new song will be featured called Make Me and Scream, her duet with brother
Michael.
Speaking of Michael, The American Music Awards air on ABC November 22nd, and
Jackson is up for five awards based on his record sales this year. Maxwell,
Beyonce, Jay-Z, Mary Mary and Keyshia Cole are also up for awards. Jay-Z and
Alicia Keys will be performing their hit song Empire State Of Mind.
Speaking of Alicia Keys, she has a new album, The Element Of Freedom, coming
out on December 15th. She is also coming out with a new line of handcrafted
jewelry. Plus, she’s launching a new website, Iamasuperwoman.com. The site
will be devoted to spotlighting inspirational woman.
The Soul Train Music Awards are set to return November 29th on BET. Chaka
Khan, Charlie Wilson and L.A. Reid & Babyface will be the special honorees.
Taraji P. Henson and Terrence Howard are hosting the show. Scheduled
performers include Toni Braxton, Robin Thicke, Fantasia and Boyz II Men, and
there will be a special tribute to Michael Jackson.
Jennifer Hudson is gearing up for her ABC holiday special. Jennifer Hudson:
I’ll Be Home For Christmas will be filmed in Chicago. Hudson is loving
motherhood. Two months ago, she gave birth to son David, Jr. Jennifer is
losing weight. She says she has cut out sugar from her diet, and she’s doing
a lot of walking and eating right. It’s been a year since the tragic murders
of her family members, her mother, brother and seven-year old nephew were
killed last October.
Get ready for the return of Angie Stone. The new album unexpected comes out
November 24th.
Flavor Flav is coming back to TV. Flav is filming a new reality show where
he goes back to high school. Flavor Flav is 50, and he dropped out of school
in the 10th grade. Flav says he wants to make his family proud.
Will and Jada Pinkett Smith will be hosting this year’s Nobel Peace Prize
ceremonies.
The stars came out for Lionel Richie and a taping of UNCF’s Evening Of
Stars. The show airs in January and will feature Stevie Wonder, Brian
McKnight and Natalie Cole.
Idris Elba, Michael Ealy and Rapper T.I. will be starring in the new movie
Takers, which opens in theatres February 19th, 2010.
